The Red Line is steadily taking shape, especially with the installation of the ART guideway near the Pelita Heights area. The alignment for the Red Line will mostly be elevated. To date, eight pier caps for the ART guideway have been successfully installed, with the ninth scheduled for installation soon. With a total of eight elevated ART stations, the Red Line of the KUTS project will cover a distance of 12 km, between Kuching Sentral and the Neu Pendington area. The development of the Red Line has now shifted into full gear with works at multiple locations along the alignment. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience during this construction period and let’s continue to work together to transform our city’s public transport system

Joining the Ministry of Transport Sarawak’s exhibition booth, we had the opportunity to share with visitors our plans to decarbonise the public transport system through our zero-emission hydrogen-powered ART vehicles and feeder buses for the KUTS project

KUTS project team visited several construction sites along the Blue Line (Package 1) alignment as well as at our Rembus Depot in Kota Samarahan. Works on Rembus Depot and Blue Line (Package 1) are progressing steadily, as we expect to meet the target of starting the ART passenger service by the fourth quarter of 2026
Sarawak Metro organised Road Safety Awareness Campaign along Jalan Simpang Tiga, together with our KUTS Project’s Blue Line Package 2 contractor, Perbena Emas and China Road & Bridge Corporation JV (PECRJV). This campaign aimed to remind road users to stay alert, follow traffic rules and prioritise safety near our KUTS Project construction sites throughout the city. Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus visited us at our Corporate Office with the 80 undergraduate students from the university’s Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science our journey to modernise the public transport system, through the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project. On hand to brief the students were our project engineer Farid Hamizan Roslan, engineer Syammil Mohd Ishak, and engineer Nur Nafisa Abdullah, who provided insights on the signalling and traffic control systems, as well as the ongoing development of the KUTS project. The students also had the chance to experience firsthand our Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) prototype vehicle at the Kuching ART Assembly Facility (KAAF)
We were delighted to host a delegation of 15 representatives from the Project Management Institute (PMI) Malaysia Chapter as part of their study tour to Kuching. Last weekend, Sarawak Metro took part in Program Jom Berambeh ke Taman Won, a community engagement event hosted by the Friendly Neighbourhood Association (KJM) under N6 Tupong at Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Pinang Jawa. Our sincerest appreciation goes especially to DBKU and KJM Matang Baru for opening the door and allowing us to share our efforts in facilitating the transformation of Kuching’s public transport system with the local residents.
Sarawak Metro’s contractor for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Red Line, Sri Datai – JT JV Builder – CHEC Construction (SJCJV), proudly marked a significant safety milestone recently with the achievement of 1 million safe man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI). As recognition for SJCJV’s commitment to safe construction practices, the joint venture company was awarded commendations from both Sarawak Metro and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).

We were honoured to host Ir. Haji Mohd Hatta Zakaria, Director General of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia, as well as the leadership of DOSH Sarawak, during a technical visit to the Simpang Tiga ART interchange station construction site and the Kuching ART assembly facility. The visit served as an opportunity for DOSH Malaysia to review the progress of the project and assess the implementation of safety and health measures on site.

Sarawak Metro, through our recreational club, Kelab Rekreasi Kakitangan Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (RESTS) recently shared the joy of breaking fast with 62 children from Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah. The end of February brought us another significant milestone today, with the successful handover of the SEED Programme Monitoring System (SPMS) to us. This system is a digital solution that will streamline our SEED Programme’s project monitoring and enhance overall efficiency. A huge shoutout to EPR Mobilus Global Rail JV Sdn Bhd and local Sarawak Bumiputera company, Tempah Digital Sdn Bhd for bringing this digital solution to life!

Sarawak Metro welcomed a delegation from Toyota, consisting of representatives from its Japan, Thailand and Malaysia offices. We shared about our experience in the management and maintenance of hydrogen-powered buses while learning more about Toyota’s journey in exploring opportunities to expand its production of various hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Our Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project Director, Haji Zafrin Zakariah was at our construction site at ‘The Northbank’, checking on the progress and assessing the traffic management following the introduction of an alternative route in the area. Our Blue Line Package 1 contractor is working diligently to complete the construction of the ART station at ‘The Northbank’ and with the aim of re-opening the temporarily-closed roads in the area within the next six months

We have awarded a joint venture company consisting of Shorefield Sdn Bhd, China Huaxin Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Kentkart International LLP the Bus Integrated System (BIS) contract for the design, engineering, procurement, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of the BIS, for the feeder bus service
