What is KUTS ?

As Sarawak aspires to become a developed and high-income State by 2030, a reliable transport system is vital in mobilising greater productivity and economic growth.

Sarawak Metro is implementing the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project to minimise traffic congestion on the city’s roads while spurring productivity and economic growth.

Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART)

At the heart of KUTS is the Autonomous Rapid Transit(ART) which will be the backbone of the public transport system transformation.

The Red Line

  • The Red Line is from Station SR5 at Kuching Sentral to Station SR11 at Pending and is about 12.3 km in length.
  • The Blue Line and Red Line will integrate at Simpang Tiga Station, which will serve as the interchange station.

Operation Control Centre

Operation Control Centre (OCC)
  • The Operation Control Centre (OCC) can be considered as the heart of the ART operations for KUTS.
  • The OCC is manned by traffic controllers, who monitor the hydrogen vehicles’ movements and also, via CCTV, the situation on board all our hydrogen vehicles and stations.
  • The OCC for KUTS will be located in the Administration Building of our Rembus depot.
  • It will provide integrated controls, as well as monitor and deal with any emergency situation – on the main line and in our depots – during our operation.
  • Functions and capabilities:
    • Monitor and control the hydrogen vehicles' service
    • Supervise and control the electrical power supply and distribution systems
    • Monitor and control the E&M equipment, system-wide
    • Monitor and control fire safety
    • Perform depot operations and maintenance activities
    • Communicate and monitor passengers’ movements
    • Coordinate with other modes of transport
    • Perform operation management
    • Perform incident management
    • Automatic launching and reception of hydrogen vehicles from / to depots
    • Systems and equipment fault reporting
    • Internet facility for communication with social media (Twitter, WhatsApp etc.)
    • Event log system
    • Fire suppression system
    • Flood monitoring system
    • Cross wind monitoring, anemometer wind speed sensor

Currently finishing major works at various work sites along the Blue Line (Package 1) alignment including piling work at the Kuching-Samarahan, piling works near the pedestrian bridge at UNIMAS’ East Campus entrance and while at UNIMAS Hospital we recently completed the slab concreting works
We are currently focusing on piling works for the Infrastructure Workshop at our Rembus Depot in Kota Samarahan.
We successfully completed a trial test run of our KUTS-ART LTE 4G Band 39 Evaluation for the Radio Telecommunication System at a site near Jalan Mohammad Musa in Kuching
Construction along the Red Line alignment of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, from Kuching Sentral to Pending, continues on, as scheduled
We continued on with works to build the dedicated lane along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway. Installation of Bailey beams for temporary bridgre accross Sungai Kuap are in progress. Works now are also focused on constructing the stations near the Sarawak Heart Centre and Riveria, in Kota Samarahan
Construction works for pilecap and ground beam continue steadily for our Rembus ART depot, especially on two main buildings - the mechanical workshop and administration building which also houses the operation control centre (OCC)
Construction on our Red Line alignment, stretching from Kuching Sentral to Pending, continues to focus on site clearing works and installation of hoarding walls at sites for our future ART stations
The work on temporary bridge crossing Sungai Kuap continues on with the completion of the foundation casting, which will be followed by the steel pipe piling and installation of the Bailey truss beams.

Kota Samarahan - Construction on our Rembus Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Depot's mechanical workshop continues to focus on piling works.
Construction at the SM04 site near the new UNIMAS Teaching Hospital this week focused on sand filling, which will precede work on the piling platform, followed by piling works
Construction of the ART Interchange Station at Simpang Tiga continues with earthworks and bore piling, while the terminus station for the Red Line proceeds with site clearing.
Construction works on our Rembus Depot is now focused on preparation for the pile caps for the reinforcement and formworks, as we continue on with piling works for the Mechanical Workshop and Operation Centre
On the Blue Line, the construction of a new bridge across Sungai Kuap is well underway, beginning with the preparation for temporary access to the proposed bridge. ?️ This proposed bridge will be a dedicated bridge for our Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicle - connecting the Divisions of Samarahan and Kuching
We have begun the site clearing for the development of the terminus for the Red Line in the Pending area
